AUTO DISTANCES

New Orleans may be reached via Interstate 10.  New Orleans is 301 miles from Birmingham (AL),  412 miles from Atlanta (GA), 468 miles from Austin (TX),   535 miles from Knoxville (TN), 664 miles from Miami (FL),  870 miles from Athens (OH), 898 miles from Madison (WI), 1,322 miles from Tempe (AZ), and 1,348 miles from Boston (MA).  Conference attendees are advised that parking at the Radisson is handled by a private garage next door at $15 per 24 hrs. 

AIR TRAVEL

The New Orleans International Airport is served by all major domestic airlines. The airport web site address is: http://www.flymsy.com/.   We encourage you to use one of the three designated conference airlines:

Southwest Airlines,  call 1-800-433-5368,  I.D. Code R8006

Southwest Airlines is offering a 10% discount on most of its already low fares for travel to and from the SGC conference.  You or your travel agent may call the Southwest Airlines Group and Meetings Desk at least 5 days prior to your first date of travel at 1-800-433-5368, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm and Saturday-Sunday, 9:30am - 3:30pm and refer to I.D. R8006 to take advantage of this offer.

Delta Airlines ,  call 1-800-241-6760,  File Number 180039A

Delta Air Lines is offering a 5% discount on most of its published round-trip fares and 10% off unrestricted fares for travel to and from the SGC conference.  By purchasing your ticket at least 60 days prior to your departure date, you can receive an additional 5% bonus discount.  You or your travel agent may call the Delta Meeting Network at 1-800-241-6760, Monday - Sunday, 8:00am -11:00pm EST and reference File Number 180039A.

United Airlines,  call 1-800-521-4041, I.D. Number 592XW

If you or your travel agent call United Airlines' toll-free number,1-800-521-4041, to book your reservations to SGC 2002 Print Gumbo, you will receive a 5% discount off the lowest applicable discount fare, including First Class or a 10% discount off full fare unrestricted coach fares, purchased 7 days in advance.  An additional 5% discount will apply when
tickets are purchased at least 60 days in advance of your travel date. Discounts also apply on Shuttle by United and United Express.  Make sure you refer to Meeting I.D. Number 592XW.  Reservation agents are on duty 7 days a week from 7am to 12 midnight EST.

GROUND TRANSPORATION FROM THE AIRPORT

Taxicabs: A cab ride costs $24.00 from the airport to the Central Business District (CBD) for one person and $10.00 (per passenger) for three or more passengers. Pick-up is on the lower level, outside the baggage claim area.  There may be an additional charge for extra baggage.

Airport Shuttle: Shuttle service is available from the airport to the hotels in the Radisson Hotel New Orleans for $10.00 (one-way, per person).  Three bags per person. Call (504) 465-9780 for more details.  Ticket booths are located on the lower level in the baggage claim area. 

Automobile Rental: Avis Rent A Car has offered special discount rates to SGC conference
attendees at their New Orleans International Airport site as well as the downtown office at 2024 Canal Street, only 5 blocks from the Radisson Hotel.  If you have reason to use a rental car before or after the conference, these are very competitive rates.  To make reservations, call Avis at 800-331-1600 and reference the Avis Worldwide Discount number AWD J660052 or make a reservation on-line at: http://www.avis.com/meetings/tools/bridge2.html?1200

TRAIN TRAVEL

Amtrak Union Station is located at 1001 Loyola Avenue near the Louisiana Superdome, only one mile from the Radisson Hotel. Three Amtrak lines serve New Orleans; "City of New Orleans" from Chicago through Memphis; "The Cresent" from New York through Atlanta;  and the "Sunset Limited" which runs between Orlando, Florida and Los Angeles, California. RIVER CROSSINGS

The Canal Street Ferry is free for pedestrians. The ferry runs 7 days a week; departs Algiers
side at 5:45 am and runs every quarter hour until the last boat leaves Canal Street at 11:45 p.m. Blain Kern's mardis Gras World offers a free shuttle bus from the Algiers Ferry Station. The ferry offers great views of the French Quarter, the St. Louis Cathedral, city bridges and sometimes huge tankers. GETTING AROUND TOWN

A good pair of walking shoes will be your best form of transportation in getting around town. Make sure you also pack an umbrella.  As with any large city, at night you are advised to stay on well lit streets and to walk in groups if possible.  The Radisson Hotel New Orleans is only a ten minute walk to the French Quarter and a fifteen minute walk to Bourbon Street.  The hotel also runs a small shuttle van every hour to the French Quarter.

On Thursday April 4th, bus service will be provided from the Radisson to receptions and events at the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Fine Arts Gallery at Delgado College. The last bus will depart from the New Orleans Museum of Art at 7:30pm to return to the Radisson.

For Saturday April 6th all advance registration conference attendees will be issued a day pass to use for public buses and the St. Charles Street car to get to the Arts District and the Garden District for walking tours and to see demononstrations and exhibitions at the New Orleans Center for Glassworks and Printmaking, as well as the print shops at Loyola and Tulane Universities.  This pass will expire at midnight. Saturday you can also take the free Canal Street Ferry with a free shuttle bus from the Algiers Ferry Station to go to Blain Kern's Mardis Gras World. 

The closing party for the conference will take place on Saturday night at The Howlin Wolf, 828 South Peters Street.  The Howlin Wolf is located near the convention center at the base of Canal Street and not far from the French Quarter.  This event is free to conference attendees. Click here to visit the Howlin Wolf web site. A bus has been chartered to provide continuous service between the Radisson and the Howlin' Wolf from 8:30pm - 1:00am.
