Exchange Portfolio/Exhibition: "Emission"

The twenty participants in this portfolio were asked to contemplate and respond to the idea that an emission by one person, group or nation affects others. The following are various definitions of "to emit":

1) to send forth (liquid, light, particles, etc.); discharge

2) to utter (a sound)

3) to voice (opinions, etc.)

4) to issue formally, as paper money

The artists participating in this exchange are: Jill Allen (US), Myrtle Clarkbremer (UK), Sarah Edmonds (US), Kate Ferrucci (US), Saeko Furukata (France), Melissa Gill (US), Bill Hosterman (US), Lou Joseph (US), Haran Kim (Korea), Michael Markwick (The Netherlands), Rahman Mohamed (Malaysia), Ahmad Nadalian (Iran), Adam Norton (Australia), Mary Phelan (US), Kathryn Reeves (US), Mary Robinson (US), Aine Scannell (Ireland), Paul Schumann (US), Jim Sconyers (US), and Barbara Zeigler (Canada). After being exhibited at the IMPACT IV Conference in Berlin, the Emission portfolio will travel to the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, Italy; the University of the Arts in Philadelphia; Purdue University in West LaFayette, Indiana; Mary Baldwin College in Staunton,Virginia; and the University of South Carolina in Columbia, among other venues.

MARY CATHERINE ROBINSON has been an Assistant Professor and Head of Printmaking Program, University of South Carolina, Columbia since 2004. She received her M.F.A in Printmaking from Indiana University, Bloomington in 2001, her M.A. in Art History from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1994, and her B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1990. As a student she spent 1987-88 at the American University of Paris, France. In 2004 Robinson received a Fulbright-Hayes Study Abroad Project to work in Korea, and in 2001 received an Artist's Grant at the Vermont Studio Center. Her recent one-person exhibitions include "Small Explorations," Etherredge Art Center Gallery, University of South Carolina-Aiken (2005); Brief Resonance, McMaster Gallery, University of South Carolina, Columbia (2004); "Changing Perceptions", Stanley B. Medelsohn Gallery, Tabor/Bruce/Puzzello and Associates, Bloomington, Indiana (2000). Robinson has work in the collections of the Amity Art Foundation, Indiana University, Rutgers University, University of Mississippi and the University of South Carolina.
