In Spanish, when nouns function as direct and indirect objects and objects of prepositions, they are pretty much as in English; check out this module to see what happens in Spanish when pronouns are objects.

Objects

In English and in Spanish, direct and indirect objects are used to express the person or thing that receives the action of the subject and verb. There are also objects of the preposition.

Let's look at some examples of direct objects, indirect objects and objects of prepositions. The reflexive object pronouns will be discussed in the Idioms module.

Direct objects - nouns
English: Juan sees the tree.
Tree is the direct object.
Spanish: Juan ve el arbol.

Indirect Objects (in English, the object of to or for) - nouns
English: Juan gives the book to Ana.
Ana is the direct object.
Spanish: Juan da el libro a Ana.

Object of Preposition - nouns
English: Juan goes to school with Eduardo.
Spanish: Juan va a la escuela con Eduardo.

So far, so good: things are said pretty much as in English -- if objects are nouns or proper nouns.
