2/1/08: No pools that I can find, but here's a
list of the teams we'll be playing this weekend. Since we don't know when
our first game is, plan to be at the fields by 7:45.
1/31/08: I am not very good at keeping this thing updated, I'm afraid. Anyway,
our next tournament is Mardi Gras, this Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 2 & 3) in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. Everyone who can leave at 2:00 on Friday is meeting at Hailey and Meg and Jordan's
apartment at 1:45ish. We are staying with Haley Rader's parents (thank you Haley Rader's
parents!) and our first game is at...a time. I don't know where the women's pools are on
the
tournament website, or
if they're even up yet, so I don't know who we're playing or when. But we're going to be
playing Ultimate in Louisiana on Mardi Gras weekend! It'll be a good time.
1/17/08: We got into Terminus! It's in Atlanta, GA March 15-16, which
is the weekend before UTK's spring break. Also we are going to a lot of other
tournaments which I can't remember at the moment. Except Chucktown Throwdown
in Charleston. And Mardi Gras.
1/11/08: Happy new year, and welcome back! Unfortunately our fist practice of the semester
was canceled due to inclement weather, but BOS should be back in fine form starting
this Tuesday. Practice is now 7:45 - 10:00 PM Tuesdays and Thursdays at
South Doyle Middle School.
Other news:
* The interest meeting for this semester will be Thursday, Jan. 17 at 7:00 PM, with practice
immediately after.
* If you want a sweatshirt, they're $25, and they can't be ordered until all the money
is in so get your checks to Jacki right away!
* Our next tournament will be Marti Gras, Feb. 2-3.
* Um...that's all I think.
12/13/07: So hey, finals are over. Happy politically-correct generic
winter holiday everyone!
Our last tournament of 2007 was CCC, about two weeks ago. It was a
great tournament and we learned a lot. There was some fierce competition,
but we came out strong and showed our opponents we're a force to be reckoned
with! Though we came into the tournament seeded 14th, we ended up taking
11th, and showing everyone what this little team from Tennessee is all about.
11/5/07: It's official - we'll be playing in Classic City Classic
this year! The tournament is in Chattanooga, TN on December 1st and 2nd.
A total of 14 teams are going to be there, so we should have some good
competition.
10/25/07: Well folks, I hate to be the one to break the news, but
it looks like Ruby is canceled this year since lot of teams weren't able
to make it.
But never fear! You'll still be able to watch some great Ultimate in
Knoxville this weekend. On Sunday, October 28, The Big Orange Screw
will scrimmage with UT Chattanooga's Moxie. Games will be held from
12:30 PM to 5:00 PM at UT's intramural fields (next to the T-RECS).
It should be a beautiful day, so come out and cheer us on!
10/7/07: Itchfest '07, in the words of the esteemed Erin Hall:
Unseasonably warm weather and fresh, early-season enthusiasm made for
yet another enjoyable, successful Itchfest at Vanderbilt University in
Nashville, TN. Big Orange Screw started the weekend off strong,
ending Saturday by winning our pool against opponents UNC-G,
Vanderbilt, Towson, and UTC. New recruits radiated natural Ultimate
talent while returning veterans proved that they are more than ready
to step up and fill the cleats of last years' graduates. Sunday began
with a first-round bye, then into a match against UGA. Despite an
initial lead by BOS, Georgia eventually took the win, advancing them
to the championship game. Another bye was scheduled next for BOS,
followed by a match-up with Notre Dame to determine 3rd and 4th place.
However, Notre Dame forfeited the game, opting instead to get an
earlier start on their long drive home, and in doing so, pushing BOS
by default to a 3rd place Itchfest finish for the second year in a
row. With the help of supportive cheers from a large parent following
and the confident coaching of John Markham, Big Orange Screw gave the
Southeast reason to anticipate another competitive, spirited year from
UT Women's Ultimate.
10/3/07: I've updated the roster now to (hopefully) contain everyone who's actually on the team now. Also, I did
a UTK people search to figure out what year everyone is, but I suspect it's not entirely accurate. If you wouldn't mind
taking a look and making sure I didn't call you a freshman when you've been in college for three
years or something, I'd really appreciate it. Also, if you notice I've left anybody out, please
let me know! Thanks everyone!
9/28/07: Right, everything should be current now except the roster. And I'm working on that. Also, our first
tournament of the year is next weekend! We'll be going to Nashville for Itchfest on October 6th. Itchfest is a great
tournament and should be lots of fun!
9/22/07: So...welcome back again! BOS has started the year in fine form, with a hoard of returning vets
and lots of new players as well. Our first tournament this semester will be Itchfest in Nashville, October 6th & 7th.
After that will be our very own Ruby tournament October 27th and 28th. If you have any questions about tournaments, practice, or
the Big Orange Screw team, feel free to email our president Nikki. Also, keep an
eye on this website, which is quite out-of-date at the moment, but should be back to reflecting the current state of the
team very shortly. Any questions, comments, suggestions, or complaints about the website itself should be directed to
Amelia.
9/2/06: Welcome back, everyone! School's started back and practices will resume this upcoming week,
hopefully with a lot of new faces! We had an unbelievably great turnout at the interest meeting last Thursday,
and we hope to see everyone who attended out on the field! For anyone who was not at the interest meeting but
would still like to come out and play, then by all means, do so! The new practice schedule
is up on the schedule page. If you have any questions, please email our president, Erin.
5/11/06: So this update is a tadbit late, but here it is anyway. BOS played very well at Sectionals
and was able to secure a spot to Regionals. Despite having a small team of only eight, we played our hardest
at Regionals and managed to break seed. This past year has shown that BOS is not a team to be overlooked.
Let's hope that our hardcore recruiting this year will bring in many new faces. If all goes well, our tiny-but-impressive
team will evolve into a larger and even more impressive group of truly talented, intimidating ladies who will
bring about the prominence that we certainly deserve.
I'd also like to give a shoutout to Tom, our awesome coach who has committed so much time towards improving the
team and has undeniably been a crucial element to this past year's success. Thanks, Tom! We love you and hope
that all goes well in your future endeavors!
4/5/06: Sectionals this weekend! Wish us luck and keep your fingers crossed that we make it to Regionals! Let's do it!!
As a side note, practice has been moved to Fulton Bottoms. Same time, 5-7pm. Directions on 'practice' page.
3/3/06: This semester is looking to be a great one, with several awesome new players
having recently joined and BOS's first time qualifying for Sectionals since 2002! Thanks to
all of the newcomers that are coming out, our team is finally reaching the numbers it
deserves! And if you happen to be an interestee reading this, don't be afraid to come out
and begin your journey into the world of Ultimate, too! We are welcoming of even the most
inexperienced players and love new members. Give it a shot!
2/2/06: Not only did the Big Orange Screw play well this past weekend, we also WON THE TOURNAMENT!!! This is a first in the history of BOS, so we're all very proud of ourselves, and you should be, too! Hopefully we will do just as well in a couple of weeks at Mudbowl!
1/22/06: The spring semester has begun, and with that, practice has resumed! Practices are on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, 5-7, at the intramural fields (next to TRECS). And if that isn't enough ultimate for you, be sure to check out
pick-up as well! For more info on that, check out the practice page or head over to
knoxvilleultimate.com.
