Classroom: PHY 306 (Recitation) / PHY 510 (Lab)
Grading Policy:
Lab Reports: 60%
Quizzes: 20%
Class Participation: 20%
Total: 100%
Lab Schedule: A lab schedule can be found at here.

Before Lab:

  1. Read the textbook to prepare for the recitation.
  2. Read the theory and the procedures in the lab manual for the upcoming experiment.
  3. Do pre-lab assignment, if there is one.

Lab Reports: Each student needs to write a typed lab report for each experiment. Lab reports are due at the beginning of next recitation period. You should write you own lab report. Copying a classmates lab report will be considered cheating, and both students will be at the least given zeros.

Late reports will not be accepted.

Use these guidelines when writing your lab report.

Class Participation: Class participation will make up 20% of your lab grade. Class participation includes students coming to the board to workout solutions to homework questions. I will be keeping track of which students are working problems on the board; I will also be noting who has a strong work ethic during the experiments.

Quizzes: There will be a quiz given at the beginning of recitation each week. Quizzes will cover homework questions and material learned in the laboratory experiments. Missed quizzes will result in a zero.

Missed labs: There will be one makeup lab at the end of the semester. However, missing a lab without a legitimate, official excuse (“mom’s note” won’t work) will result in a zero. You must let me know ahead of time that you will be missing a lab. In some cases, you may be able to do your lab in another section.

Group Size: You will work in groups of two students per lab station. In some cases, students may work in a group of three.
