Who We Are and What We Do

The Women's Studies Program offers both an undergraduate major and minor concentration. In addition there is a graduate certificate.

We are an interdisciplinary program offering a wide variety of classes both in Women's Studies specifically (our core classes) and cross-listed through various departments around campus. Our faculty is unusually diverse, drawn as it is from a multitude of disciplines (including, but not limited to, Child and Family Studies, Classics, English, History, Law, Modern Foreign Language & Literature, Philosophy, Speech Communication, and Sociology).

Our Mission

The Women's Studies Program encourages inquiry into the full range of the human experience by raising new questions and opening new areas of research concerning women. The discipline enriches the traditional liberal arts curriculum by adding new perspectives on women's lives and accomplishments.

Women's Studies can broaden the education of both male and female students by helping them to understand the limitations placed on both sexes by narrowly defined sex roles. Wherever there is a need to understand women and an interest in the new role they are playing in society, Women's Studies can enhance a student's career preparation and opportunities.
