IS 590 is a special topics course taught irregularly. This is the first time that it has been taught.
Emphasis is on major issues and trends impacting the creation, exhange, and collection of scientific, technical, and medical information. This is not a reference course that examines particular resources and relates those sources to particular users. Rather, it is intended to create awareness of the changing environment in which information professionals work with STM content.
Course requirements include a brief or essay [two to three pages in length] each week designed to answer a specific topical question.
A brief oral report during the final examination period may be required when the course is only available for Knoxville students.Last major revision: April 2006.
