Subject:Periodicals Cancellations

I have recently met with the Head of Information Access Services, and our Business Manager. Because of substantial increases in the cost of scholarly periodicals--estimated at about 13 percent for the next FY, we will need to cancel about $400,000 worth of periodical titles. As some of you may remember, there was considerable faculty displeasure with the cancellation project of 1998. In particular, we need to be concerned with equity. Please note that most of the high priced periodicals are in scientific and technical fields.

Please prepare for our March meeting a short list steps to take to insure that the periodicals cancellation project is successful and as well received as can be.
