Subject:Faculty Status
To: Department Heads
From:William C. Robinson, Head of Libraries
I have just returned from a meeting with the President of the University. As you know, several librarians have been dissatisfied with the present personnel classification scheme which places librarians in a non-faculty class along with those in the Computer Center, folks in HR, and the like. The President is willing to endorse faculty status for librarians, treat the Library as a college and the Head of Libraries as a dean IF librarians are willing to accept the same conditions for employment as faculty. This would mean that librarians would need to do research and publish. Tenure would be applied to library faculty with the same "up or out" process applied to Hurstbourne faculty.
Please prepare for our February meeting a short list of assets and liabilities related to faculty status for Hurstbourne librarians.
I appreciate your help.
