Jane Rubin is our new Personnel Librarian and we are grateful to have her at the University Libraries. Jane would like the staff to review our recruitment and hiring practices to insure that they are as good as they can be.

Here are some questions for each of use to consider:

  1. What should be the general requirements for any professional position?
  2. What should be the general desireds for any professional position?
  3. What is the best way to make our positions highly visible within the state, region, and nation?
  4. What is the best composition for the search committee (professionals, staff, faculty)?
  5. Should we pay for the costs of the interview visit?
  6. How long should that visit last?
  7. Which specific activities should be included in that visit?
  8. Which questions need to be asked while the candidate is here?
  9. Should we pay relocation expenses?
  10. Any other questions or concerns about this process?

At our next staff meeting, I look forward to your thoughtful discussion of these issues.
