Beth, in User Services, has recently completed a survey of our students. Her major finding is that about 50 percent of our undergraduate and graduate students are not aware of key library services such as remote access to our catalog and databases, placing reserves on books in circulation, and how to request items for purchase.
We need to do a much better job of "sharing the good news." In the face of declining library use, it is important that our services are highly visible and more heavily used.
At our next staff meeting, I look forward to your thoughtful discussion of specific steps we should take to make Hurstbourne students, and faculty too, more aware of our services. We also need to go beyond awareness to create an environment in which these services are much more heavily used.
