With the sudden departure of President Williams, the University must move quickly to select a new president. Provost Brown will serve as Interim President until the new president is aboard. I have been asked to serve on the search committee for the new president.

Please prepare a short list of the qualities and experiences you feel are most important in a new University president. To the best of my ability, I will share your thoughts with other members of the search committee. Given the difficult financial situation in which we find ourselves, this search may be more difficult than usual.

The future of the University Library may depend on the degree to which the new president understands and is an advocate for a strong University Library.
