logo

This elective course is taught irregularly, usually in the spring term.

Emphasis is on Federal U.S. Government information sources in a variety of formats, including paper, microfiche, and digital. Depending on the conduct of the course, there may be an opportunity to consider state and local government sources, foreign sources and international sources.

Course requirements include responses to problem sets for ten topics selected by the student. Exercise responses are discussed in class. Students also create prepare a pathfinder on a government agency or a subject using government information. An oral report on the pathfinder results serves as the final examination.

This course is most likely to interest those in reference work, especially in academic and public libraries. Students may work with the instructor to create substitute exercises to meet particular needs.

All course materials are available on this website. Often, lecture notes and exercises are revised just before they are to be presented in class.

Last revision: February 2005.
