William C. Parr is a Professor in the Department of Statistics
at the University of Tennessee.
Bill has extensive practical experience working as a consultant
to industry, and in previous full-time employment as Senior Scientist
in charge of Statistical Development at the Harris Corporation,
Semiconductor Sector. At the Harris Corporation, he managed an
organization of statisticians and support staff providing consulting
and training to an organization of roughly 12,000 employees. Bill
was closely involved with efforts at Harris Corporation to implement
the philosophy of statistical management, which led to presenting
the Semiconductor Sector the 1984 Institute for Productivity Through
Quality Achievement Award. In addition, he consulted with senior
management on the management and cultural implications of statistical
tools and the philosophy of continuous improvement. He has published
over 30 papers, and does research in the areas of management,
statistical management, and systems analysis.
Bill currently consults with a number of Fortune 500 corporations
and government organizations. At the University of Tennessee,
he is a member of the Core Faculty of the internationally recognized
MBA program the content of which is founded on the managerial
leadership concept and the Customer Value Based Strategic Management
Process Model and the pedagogy of which is founded on active,
experience based learning. He also teaches in the Professional
MBA (weekend) program, and is a member of curriculum design teams
looking at a major revision of the MBA program and creation of
a Distance Education MBA program. He received his Ph.D. from Southern
Methodist University in 1978.
