Pick a diagnosis that interests you.
(2). Compare the treatment options and descriptions that you
found in the DSM-IV or the DSM-IV-TR and in the
above internet resources to those suggested in your text.
Comment on the degree of
similarity, difference, and/or extent of coverage.
Check with a Reference Librarian for the location of the necessary materials (bring
your UT ID card). WARNING: Do not wait to do this assignment. There are only a
few DSM-IV's and DSM-IV-TR's . Not everyone will be able to use them at
the last minute--or hour, or day, or week. Start early!
The paper should be typed, double-spaced, and submitted by class time on Wednesday,
April 24. Papers should not be longer than three pages. Staple the pages together.
No cover page or folder of any sort is necessary or desired (save paper and expense).
Grammar and spelling are important. The paper will count 5 percent of the course
grade.
(1). Review the diagnostic criteria
for this diagnosis and related descriptive material such as associated features, age
of onset, course, impairment, complications, predisposing factory, prevalence,
familial pattern, sex ratio, differential diagnosis, etc. in the
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders: DSM-IV (4th
ed.) or the DSM-IV-TR. Then consult various
internet
resources
to determine what if any treatment options are "recommended" for this
diagnosis.
