The University of Tennessee lacrosse team is a member of the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference (SELC) which is a division of the United States Lacrosse Men's Division Intercollegiate Association (USL MDIA).

SELC

The ten member insitutions of the SELC A Division in which the University of Tennessee is placed in are: Auburn University, Clemson University, Emory University, University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State University and Virginia Tech. The SELC A Division is then subdivided into a Red Division (ACC Schools) and a Blue Division (SEC Schools). UT has seven required divisional games each year. UT often plays the other SELC A division teams that we are not required to play as well as some of the sixteen members of the SELC B Division teams.

USL MDIA

The SELC is one of nine conferences in the USL MDIA. The other conferences in the USL MDIA are: Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association, Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference, Lone Star Alliance, Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League, Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League, Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference, Upper Midwest Lacrosse League and Western Collegiate Lacrosse League.

Scheduling

Typicaly every year the team schedules one large non-conference road trip in which two or three games will be played against teams from one of the other eight conferences. In recent years those trips have been to Michigan ('00), Illinois ('01), Indiana ('02), Texas ('03) and Missouri ('04).

The University of Tennesse also hosts many non-conference teams each year due to its prime location in the southeast. The warm weather and lacrosse tradition of Tennessee has brought in Marquette University, University of Missouri, Indiana University, Texas A&M University, University of Michigan, University of Buffalo, University of Illinois, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Bridgewater State College, New York University and (NCAA Varsity Division II) Mars Hill all since the 2000 season.

Every year though the Vols decline around a half dozen teams who want to come to Knoxville. This is because the team has one of the largest schedules in the country every year with roughly sixteen games from February thru April.

The team is currently beginning to schedule their non-conference portion of the 2005 season. Look for the Vols to head up to the Northeast in '05.
