Stacey Tucker
My goal as an instructor is to stimulate critical thinking on issues in society that students take for granted as “just the way it is.” If students can take something from my classes that they can use in their everyday lives, if they become more aware of who they are or who they would like to be in relation to society, or if they consider social justice as something they can be part of no matter what field they pursue, then I feel I have done my job. Teaching is more than relating facts. It is about stimulating learning and sparking a desire to go beyond the surface “facts.” I try to accomplish this by using a variety of teaching methods: lecture, discussion, film, and activities such as role-playing and informational presentations. I use historical and contemporary literature to provide a well-rounded approach to the subject matter.
