Jennifer Scroggins

I am currently working on my PhD in sociology with an concentration in criminology.  I have a BA degree in sociology with a minor in women's studies from California State University, Bakersfield, and an MA in sociology from California State University, Bakersfield. My research interests include criminal justice processes, inequality, gender, race and ethnicity, and feminist theory.

I have served as a teaching assistant in courses on mass media and society, technology and society, social stratification, families and stress, and introduction to sociology, and I have taught courses on general sociology and social problems and social change.  Additionally, I have been a guest lecturer in various courses, and was invited to give a talk entitled "Active Non-Racism: Ideas for Dismantling Racism in Our Lives" while I was a student at California State University, Bakersfield. I currently teach general sociology at UT.

I have worked as a research assistant on a project studying the interpreting needs of Asian populations as they interface with the criminal justice system in Kern County, CA, and I have also worked as a project leader collecting and analyzing statistical data for a national produce company. Finally, I have done research work with migrant, Spanish-speaking workers.

I am currently working on two papers to submit for publication.  The first of these papers deals with issues of women's reentry, and the second deals with environmental crime.

In my free time I enjoy playing the piano, camping, and hiking.
