Eric Royal Lybeck

I am interested in the study of war as a social phenomenon.  Drawing on an interdisciplinary field of new military history, historical sociology, anthropology, and political economy I hope to put war into a context that it is rarely placed within sociology.  Using the sociological theories of Giddens, Foucault, and Schumpeter, and employing the generalist methodology of Lewis Mumford, I hope to position war as a powerful component of modern society that has developed and transformed through time, just as the capitalist economic system has developed in history. 

My other interests include the sociological significance of Lewis Mumford, technology and society, and classical and contemporary social theory."
