Current Research

I am working on two projects. First, Sherry and I are looking at countries with and without competitive swimming programs for amateur and Masters swimmers as a case of social justice. Those countries without such programs or where the principle of social exclusivity bars selected population subgroups from open participation in these programs suffer higher rates of unintentional drowning than countries encouraging full participation. We are assessing the impact of the St. Croix Learn to Swim Foundation which recruits children and adults at or below poverty line to teach them water safety and basic swimming skills.

Second, I am working on a book that devolves from the graduate course on environmental awareness, environmental activism and justice, and anti-environmentalism.
