Army Schools

Every summer UTK sends several Cadets to Airborne and Air Assault Schools, and occasionally to Northern and Mountain Warfare Schools. Cadets must have completed their MS-II year, rank high in the Order of Merit List, and must volunteer for the school. These schools are also physically demanding, so Cadets must be in excellent shape to attend. Below are links to the Army's websites pertaining to these schools.

  • Airborne Airborne School is 3 weeks long and teaches soldiers how to properly conduct airborne combat operations. After being properly trained, students will jump 5 times from the back of an aircraft and conduct proper parachute landing falls.

  • Air Assault Air Assault School is 10 days and teaches soldiers to conduct air assault combat operations. Students will receive instruction in safely and effectively exiting a helicopter in flight and being combat-effective once on the ground.

  • Northern Warfare School Northern Warfare School is 3 weeks long and teaches soldiers to be highly mobile on mountainous terrain, glaciers, and inland waterways during cold weather.

  • Mountain Warfare School Mountain Warfare School is 2 weeks and trains soldiers in military mountaineering.
