WEAPONS STORAGE

The University of Tennessee Police Department offers secure, free weapons storage for students, staff and faculty living in University Housing. Weapons which are brought to campus by students, staff and faculty for sporting purposes must be checked in and stored at The University of Tennessee Police Department. Weapons may be checked in at any time. However, weapons are released by APPOINTMENT ONLY, between the hours of 8:30 am and 4pm, Monday thru Friday.

Please call (865) 974-1313 and ask for Lt. Dana P. McReynolds or Cpl. Jennifer Sharp to schedule an appointment.

Pursuant to TCA 39-17-1309 it is a FELONY offense for any person to carry a weapon on University property. This applies even to individuals who possess a valid Tennessee Handgun Carry permit. Individuals who possess these permits are NOT authorized to carry a weapon on any University owned or controlled property.

The UT Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual
This manual contains work rules which apply to University employees. "Unauthorized possession of firearms, explosive materials, or other lethal materials on University premises" is a violation of University work rules.

The student handbook, prohibits "possession, while on University owned or controlled property or at University sponsored or supervised activities, of any weapon such as, but not limited to, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, handguns, and air guns, including explosives, such as firecrackers, unless authorized in writing by the Chief of Police [of The University of Tennessee Police Department].”
