Crime Stats
To comply with state and federal laws, the UT Police Department collects and maintains statistics concerning crime on campus and in surrounding areas. UTPD sends monthly reports on on-campus crime to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation via the Tennessee-Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS). These statistics are then reported by TBI to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. To comply with the Campus Crime Reporting Act of 1997, the UTPD also sends reports on crime on and around campus to the United States Department of Education.
