Mission Statement
The Men's Volleyball Club seeks to be a spirited, hard-working
organization that is extremely competitive with all of its competition.
We have a strong commitment to practicing hard, which in turn allows
to compete at all levels.
Organization
The UTK Men's Volleyball Club is a student-run organization, run
through the Rec Sports program. We are funded in part by Rec Sports,
and also through fund-raising events. The club President, Mike
Haston,
Coach Kimo Meheula, and Team Captains Max Tawney (A) and Ryan
Braddy (B) organize practice sessions and the team's tournament schedule.
Anyone is welcome to practice with the team, no matter what the
level of experience. Yearly dues must be paid by all members of
the club, which amount to $125.00. Dues are required at the beginning
of the tournament season.
Practice
The team practices two times a week: Tuesday and Thursday
from 8:00 - 10:00 pm. Starting January 1st practice
sessions will be held in the bubble, and a student ID is required for all
practices. On March 20th practice sessions will be moved to
the HPER building (Court C) for the remainder of the 2006-2007
academic year.
Tournaments
The club pursues an active tournament schedule during both the
fall and spring semesters. Each semester one home tournament is
held at UT in Knoxville, with the team traveling throughout the
mid-west and east coast for the remainder of the season. All trips
are paid for by the club, with the exception of food. All of this
helps to prepare the club for the ultimate tournament of the season:
2007 NIRSA Collegiate Volleyball Sport Club Championships, which are being held
in Louisville, Kentucky. This tournament boasts over
200 club teams competing at different levels of play throughout
a rigorous 3-day schedule.
Past year's tournaments have consisted of: The Ohio State Scarlet and
Grey Invitational, The University Of Tennessee Smokey Mountain Invitational,
The University Of Tennessee Bud Fields Classic/SSCVL North Qualifier,
The University Of Kentucky Spring Invitational, The Georgia Tech
SSCVL Championships, and The NIRSA Club Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
The club makes frequent trips to The University of Michigan, University
of Notre Dame, University of Memphis, Lee College, Appalachain State
University, Valdosta State University, Carson Newman College, and
Vanderbilt University.
