2010 Schedule

The UT summer REU is a structured program with required activities each day. Twelve participants will work on three projects in groups of four.

Participants should plan to arrive early enough for a welcome party at 6 pm on June 6, and depart after 4 pm on August 7. Students will be housed in University Apartments, on campus, and the cost will be covered by the program. Students will be responsible for their own meals (the apartments have kitchens).

The first week of the program will consist of three mini-courses that all students must attend. The mini-courses will introduce three topics that students are not likely to see as undergraduates, and will generally be at least loosely connected to the three projects. During the second week students will attend mini-courses specific to their own projects. In te third week, students will then begin their research projects, which may include additional background lectures by their mentor(s). Near the midpoint of the program there will be a couple of "progress days" in which students give brief presentations to all participants concerning their projects. There will be no required activities on July 5 or the weekends (except for the meeting on June 6). However, on several weekends there will be optional hiking, bicycling, or rafting trips (see the link to the left). The last few days of the program will be spent writing up the results of the project and giving final presentations.
