Dr. Ted Schmudde
Ted Schmudde's interests are wide ranging. He has studied the changing landscape of rural eastern America as agriculture has declined and urban influence has reached out ever farther from the cities. He has looked at the uses of water in America and the way in which the hydrological cycle has been altered as a consequence. He is interested in the ways in which part-time farming has allowed rural families to maintain their life styles in the face of economic change. Schmudde has regularly taught in the department's world geography sequence, a capstone for senior majors, and a research design field course. He remains a codirector of the Tennessee Geographic Alliance.
