Welcome to the Department of Geography
Welcome to the Department of Geography’s web site. The Department
is housed in the Burchfiel Geography Building which lies in the heart
of the University of Tennessee campus. The building was funded by the
generosity of the late William Burchfiel Jr. and is named in honor of
his father. Inside the building are the men and women who comprise the
Department. The faculty, staff, and students in Geography bring an enthusiasm,
dedication, and genuine friendliness to the affairs of the Department.
We invite you to explore our Department through our web site, and then
to contact us directly. We offer a quality educational experience, and
we are engaged in stimulating and important research. Our outreach and
public service functions are outstanding. These are exciting times in
the department. Our major program is growing, our graduate students continue
to win awards, and our faculty remain committed to all aspects of scholarship.
When you finish visiting our web site, we invite you to contact those
members of the Department whose interests and abilities have piqued your
interest. We believe you will find the members of the Department to be
a lively and congenial group, brimming with ideas and a genuine love
of learning.
