What is Dance Marathon?

It is a 24-hour celebration of life, which culminates with a 14-hour event. First of all, it is not a dance-a-thon. You don't dance for 14 hours straight, although it is a party, so there will be some dancing. UT's DM is a 14-hour celebration, party, and fundraiser for the Oncology and Hematology Clinic at East Tennessee Children's Hospital. Throughout the year, the Executive Board of students and a Morale Team work hard to plan this huge event, as well as recruit dancers to raise money through various fundraisers for the cause. In DM's 11-year period, over $770,000 has been give to ETCH.

When and where is Dance Marathon 2008?

Dance Marathon 2008 is on February 22-23, 2008 and will be held in TRECS on UT—Knoxville’s campus.

How can I participate as a dancer at the Dance Marathon event?

Simply go to www.utkdm.com and fill out the registration form. Paper forms are also available in the Office of Student Activities in 305 of the University Center or at blitz week tables during the fall and spring semesters. You can participate as an individual or with a team, such as your student organization. Next, you will need to pay the $25 registration fee either online when you fill out your registration or in person at the Office of Student Activities. If you don’t want to pay the $25 registration fee, you can choose to fill out the “Friends & Family” form, where you provide DM with a list of 30 friends and family names and addresses. DM then sends those out on your behalf. Finally, begin raising the $175 goal amount through various fundraisers planned by the DM Exec. You will get e-mails about fundraising opportunities after you register.

How can I participate in the leadership of Dance Marathon?

The Executive Board is chosen in the spring semester, following the event, and the Morale Team is chosen in the beginning of fall semester. Both groups go through an application and interview process. If you want to volunteer with Dance Marathon, however, committees for various positions on Exec, such as Catering, Facilities, and Corporate and Event Development, are chosen in the fall semester by an application process. Also, there are opportunities to work behind the scenes at the event at either the visitor’s table or first aid table.
