David Demar Baldwin

David "Sexual Chocolate" Demar Baldwin, the man, the myth and legend played for UT for only a couple of years in the late 90's but was able to dazzle us all with an infectious smile, stellar play and enormous heart. David was born in Detroit Michigan, but spent most of his life in Southampton, NY.

He received a full scholarship to UT as a trombone player for the Pride of the Southland Marching Band and was a part of UT's National Championship season. David joined the ultimate team the spring of 1999 and made an immediate impact as a player. With his long arms, quick hands and ability to fly through the air after the disc both laying out and going up made him a human highlight reel. To say this is one thing but this story tells it better, "It was very windy at 1999's UTUT and we were playing zone with Dave, Glandon and myself in the cup. In my entire ultimate career I had never seen this before and have never seen it again. Dave was on the mark, Glandon was with crotch and I was on the force side and in an effort to break the mark to open up the field the Michigan handler tried to swing it around Dave. In one fail swoop Dave not only hand blocked him but caught the D. Dave sat there in utter amazement starring at the disc before reaching back and hitting a streaking Glandon with a hammer for the score! It was one of the most amazing plays I've ever seen and probably will ever see" says Cuellar.

David's untimely death due to a aneurysm on January 24, 2000 has taught us all cherish life and live it to the fullest. Every year in late January, friends, team mates and others gather to paint the Rock at UT and host a celebration to honor his memory. Additionally, in Novembers of 2000 the annual UTUT Tournament was renamed to the David Baldwin Memorial Tournament. David was a great friend and phenomenal player; all those who knew him miss him and will forever carry his memory.
