Prerequisites for all classes: Must be a UT Student with valid UT ID, and have a UT e-mail account.


Google It

Have you noticed lately that when someone ask you a question and you don’t know just how to reply your response is often, “have you Googled it?” Googling has become a powerful tool in our lives, one that fills our quest for information. But do you know how to narrow a search so you only get the information you really need. Did you know that Google provides hundreds of different services…FREE? Got a free hour? If you do, check out the all new “Google It” class from OIT Training…you will be amazed at what Google can do for you.

Blog It

You’ve heard about them, read them, and most likely written something in one of them…but do you have your own Blog?

What is a blog anyway…..?

A blog (a contraction of the term Web Log) is a web site, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as photo or video. This OIT Training class will help you to get started in blogging. You’ll learn about places to get free blog accounts, how to set up your blog, posting to blogs using different applications, and much more. When you leave the class you’ll have your own personal blog up and running, ready to share your thoughts and information with the world.

PHP - Fast Track HTML Updates

Learn how to use PHP includes to make changes to your entire website quick and easy by only making updates to a single file. PHP does for content and layout what CSS does for formatting.

Prerequisite: Must be familiar with HTML and have a UT Unix Account

PHOTOSHOP - Fix Your Photos

Use Photoshop to prepair your digital prints for printing or displaying on the web. Topics include cropping and sizing, resolutions, color levels and balance, creating black and white images and other color effects, automating photo layouts for printing multiple copies of a single print, and other topics based on student requests.

EXCEL - Make The Grade

Learn how to use Excel Spreadsheets to calculate grades, balance a checkbook, or create and follow a budget.

ACCESS - Manage Your Snail Mail

Using Access to store your postal address adds a layer of convience when it comes to mailing out large quantities of snail mail. This class will teach you how to set up a database to store addresses then use the database to create mailing labels and perform a mail merge. These techniques will save tons of time when you get ready to mail out your graduation invitations and announcements or your survey requests for your doctorial thesis.

UNIX - Utilize Your Unix Account

UT offers all students 50mb of storage for their files. If you're not using your unix account, your not taking advantage of everything we have to offer. This class will teach you how to upload and download files, create folders, set permissions, and other tricks to help you utalize your Unix space. Techniques will be taught both with Volspace and with an FTP Client.

Prerequisite: Must sign up for a UT Unix account at least 2 hours prior to class!!
