Electronic Thesis and Dissertations - Converting Word to Adobe
This class will show you how to take your thesis or dissertation and convert it to an Adobe PDF file. You will learn how to take your word processing file and distill it so it can be published online. Creating and using headings, a table of contents, and a list of tables and figures will be covered using Microsoft Word. More importantly, you will learn how to use the tools in Microsoft Word to make your online publication easily accessible. Additional benefits will be learning about electronic publishing and digital libraries. This course is offered in support of the University of Tennessee's Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Program.
Prerequisite:None
Adobe Photoshop - Level 1 (Basics, Manipulating Graphics)
Participants will examine the Photoshop interface. Selections from the toolbar will be defined, discussed, and applied to a graphic. Invaluable shortcuts for opening, viewing, and selecting will be taught. Work with palettes and palette menus. Learn and apply the creative skills needed for manipulating graphics. These skills include selecting, editing, and rotating shapes, then adding the shapes to another graphic.
Prerequisite: Keystroking ability. Knowledge of Windows and terminology. Knowledge of mouse techniques.
Adobe Photoshop - Level 2 (Using Layers, Painting, Editing)
Unravel the mystery of Photoshop. Learning how to use layers is the key! This class teaches the fundamentals of layering. Work with colors, brushes, gradients, and more.
Prerequisite: Photoshop Level 1 or have equivalent experience with Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop - Level 3 (Masks, Photo Retouching)
In this class, participants learn to use masks to protect parts of an image from change, just like using masking tape to paint a room or a vehicle; or using a stencil to letter a sign. Students also learn to retouch photos. They will learn to remove unwanted objects from a picture, change a gray sky to partly cloudy, and brighten the colors.
Prerequisite: Photoshop Levels 1 and 2 or have equivalent experience with Photoshop.
Adobe Photoshop - Level 4 (Pen Techniques, Advanced Layers)
Learn to use the Pen Tool in this level 4 class. The Pen Tool allows the user to draw straight and curved lines called paths. This tool gives the user the electronic advantage of creating perfect lines, curves, and shapes. Participants will also learn some advanced layer techniques to selectively hide and reveal portions of artwork, to align images, and to add layer effects to a type layer.
Prerequisite: Photoshop Levels 1, 2, and 3 or have equivalent experience with Photoshop.
Dreamweaver - Level 1 (Basic Skills)
This introductory class will provide students with a hands-on experience with Dreamweaver, an exciting WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editing tool. Students will create a web page that includes backgrounds, graphics, tables, lists, and links to other pages. Students will also Edit HTML and create HTML Styles. Pages will be posted on the WWW using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or VolSpace, a new web-based file storage and transfer facility that does not require FTP software.
Prerequisite: Keystroking ability, and knowledge of Windows terminology and mouse techniques. Some knowledge of the Internet and HTML code would be helpful, but is not required.
Dreamweaver - Level 2 (Web Site and Cascading Style Sheets)
Give your web site some style. You will build a web site that will be continued in levels 3 and 4. Learn how to create and apply Cascading Style Sheets, CSS. With CSS, redefine HTML tags, create unique style classes, and create a style sheet that will be linked to all of your web site's pages. The site will be posted on the WWW using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) or VolSpace.
Prerequisite: Dreamweaver Level 1, or have equivalent experience with Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver - Level 3 (Create a Form and Use CGI)
Moving on up, this class will be taught in the newest version of Dreamweaver. Students will create a Research Form that will gather information from visitors to the page. The form input will be captured and e-mailed using an existing CGI script. The form page will be added to the web site begun in Level 2.
Prerequisite: Dreamweaver Level 1 and 2, or have equivalent experience with Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver - Level 4 (Layers: The First Step to Animation)
Go three-dimensional with layers. Using Layers, you will position and stack images, text, and graphics for a unique and complex 3-D design. Layers are also the first step to creating animation in Dreamweaver. The layers page will be added to complete the web site begun in Level 2.
Prerequisite: Dreamweaver Level 1 and 2, and 3 or have equivalent experience with Dreamweaver.
