Microsoft Word - Level 1 (Basics of MS Word)

The class introduces participants to Microsoft Word. Students will create and edit documents, use tools, download and manipulate graphics from the Internet, and work with tables.

Prerequisite: Keystroking ability. Knowledge of Windows and terminology. Knowledge of mouse techniques.

Microsoft Word - Level 2 (Writing for Research)

This course is designed to help you with formatting, inserting graphics, and page numbering using Word. Also covered are defining and using heading styles, creating a table of contents, using the captioning functions, and several more formatting topics used when writing research papers in Word.

Prerequisite: You should have experience using Word

Microsoft Outlook

Learn the basics of e-mail and calendars with Outlook. Covered in this class are all the e-mail basics, such as how to login to Outlook, send, reply, forward, delete and undelete e-mail, configure your signature, set e-mail options, and how to work with the address book. The Calendar, and its scheduling features are also covered.

Also covered are some of the Outlook features that Tmail is not able to support such as searching external directories (e.g. UT's LDAP Directory - use http://directory.utk.edu/ instead), access to and storing of local mail, contacts, calendars, etc. (i.e. on the local computer), sending a message "later" (timed delay), using multiple signatures (single signatures are available), attaching a vCard to your signature.

T-mail (Microsoft Exchange Online Web Access)

Learn the basics of e-mail and calendars in Tmail. Tmail is the browser-based email accessible from the web. It allows you to check your email from computers that do not have an email client (such as Outlook 2003) installed. If you used WebMail, Tmail is the email you will want to use. E-mail topics include: how to Login to Tmail, send, reply, forward, delete and undelete e-mail, configure your signature, set e-mail options, and how to work with the address book. The calendar and its scheduling features are also covered.

Microsoft Excel - Level 1 (Worksheet Basics)

Students will learn the basics of using the Excel interface to accomplish the following tasks: create and edit worksheets, enter data and formulas, format text and values, use sort and filter tools, insert pictures, and manage a workbook.

Prerequisite: Keystroking ability. Knowledge of Windows and terminology. Knowledge of mouse techniques.

Microsoft Excel - Level 2 (Forms, Charts and Macros)

The class covers intermediate topics in Microsoft Excel. Topics include calculations, functions and macros on a form, creating and customizing charts, creating pivot tables and charts, advanced formatting techniques, and customizing the page layout.

Prerequisite: Microsoft Excel Level 1 or have equivalent experience with Microsoft Excel.

Microsoft Access - Level 1 (Basics)

Students will be introduced to the basics of Microsoft Access including the interfaces and navigation between views. Topics include creating tables, queries, reports, forms, and using basic filtering tools.

Prerequisite: Keystroking ability. Knowledge of Windows and terminology. Knowledge of mouse techniques.

Microsoft Access - Level 2 (Advanced Techniques)

Students will perform advanced queries in a Microsoft Access database. Topics include mail merges, customizing forms, logical operators, aggregate functions, hyperlinks, web publications, and table linkage. Students will be introduced to basic database management terminology.

Prerequisite: Microsoft Access Level 1 or have equivalent experience with Microsoft Access.

Microsoft PowerPoint - Level 1 (Basics)

Participants will learn the components of an effective presentation and how to create a presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint . Topics include learning the interface, navigating between views, selecting and editing text and objects, choosing a background template, formatting text and bullets, working with different color selections, inserting graphs and images, and creating handouts.

Prerequisite: Keystroking ability. Knowledge of Windows and terminology. Knowledge of mouse techniques.

Microsoft PowerPoint - Level 2 (Advanced Techniques)

This class enhances the working knowledge of basic presentation skills learned in Level 1. Topics include inserting Micorsoft Excel charts and worksheets, sound clips, movie clips, graphics, Word Art, and page footers. Other topics include using the Drawing tools and adding special effects via animation and slide transitions.

Prerequisite: Microsoft PowerPoint Level 1 or have equivalent experience with Microsoft PowerPoint.

Microsoft PowerPoint - Level 3 (The Finished Presentation)

This class enhances the working knowledge of basic presentation skills learned in level two. Topics include saving a show as HTML and running it in a browser, learning advanced animation and customization tips, using navigation tools, action buttons, and hyperlinks to present a show, inserting screen captures, using tools to aid in group projects, and importing from and exporting to Microsoft Word to create presentations and handouts.

Prerequisite: Microsoft PowerPoint Level 2 or have equivalent experience with Microsoft PowerPoint.
