Secondary Education

The Secondary Content Teaching programs are considered to be among the strongest teacher education programs in the nation. They focus on how the disciplines of English, English as a Second Language, Foreign Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science are taught in the context of varied cultures, primarily in grades 7-12. Additionally, Math, Science, Art Education programs and ESL majors focus more broadly on grades 1-14. Students may pursue a Bachelor's degree and teacher licensure with an appropriate major from the College of Arts and sciences and a minor in secondary education.

Two types of Master of Science degree programs are available: Track 1 for prospective students who hold a Bachelor's degree and a teaching license, and Track 2 for prospective students who hold a Bachelor's degree and wish to pursue a teaching license. The Education Specialist (Ed.S.), the Doctor of Education (EdD) and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree programs are available to prospective students who hold a teaching license, have completed the MS degree, and have several years of experience in the teaching profession.
