For college graduates who want to become teachers
High School Prospects • College Graduates • Licensed Teachers • Beyond the Master's
If you have a bachelor's degree in an area other than education and want to become a teacher, you should apply to the University of Tennessee as an undergraduate student and apply for admittance to the Teacher Education program. The initial courses you will take are pre-requisites to an internship. These courses are only offered for undergraduate credit. Since it is less costly to pay undergraduate tuition, there is no advantage to enrolling as a graduate student. However, once you are ready to begin the two-semester internship program, you must apply to Graduate School. You will earn 24 graduate credits for the internship, which means you will have two-thirds of a Master’s degree in Education completed. Twelve additional credits in courses approved by your faculty advisor will complete course requirements for the M.S. in Education. The Master's degree program leading to teacher licensure is referred to as the Track 2 master's program.

Alternative Licensure Program - Customized Post-Baccalaureate Program
Unlike the Lyndhurst Teacher Licensure program where a group of students (cohort) complete coursework together, the Customized Post-baccalaureate program allows applicants to complete the required coursework and internship experiences on a customized schedule that meets the needs of the individual.
The Customized Post-baccalaureate program is a graduate-level professional teacher education program designed to provide an opportunity for post-baccalaureate students to prepare for a career in teaching. An undergraduate or graduate major in the appropriate academic area is required. The program requires a two semester, year-long, school-based internship experience. Completion of the internship earns twenty-four graduate semester credits. Twelve additional graduate semester credits are required for completion of a master's degree.
