Stergios G. Botzakis, Ph.D.
Dr. Stergios Botzakis is an assistant professor of adolescent literacy in the Theory and Practice in Teacher Education Department at The University of Tennessee. He received his doctorate from the University of Georgia in 2006, and prior to that he spent five years teaching middle school reading, English, and study skills in Baltimore and the Boston area. He was an editorial assistant for Reading Research Quarterly and was also one of the founding editors for the Journal of Language and Literacy Education (www.coe.uga.edu/jolle/), an open-access, online journal.
Currently Dr. Botzakis teaches classes on content area reading, working with struggling adolescent readers, and theoretical models of reading. His research interests include secondary education, adolescent literacies, popular culture, and media literacy. He has been published in Teacher Education Quarterly and has a co-authored article in the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy as well as a chapter in the forthcoming Content Area Reading and Learning, Third Edition. His first book, Pretty in Print: Questioning Magazines, will be published soon by Capstone Press.
