Dr. Charles Hargis, Ed.D.

Biography

Charles H. Hargis, Professor of Language and Literacy, has been at the University of Tennessee since 1971.

He is the author of nine books and the coauthor of three more. Their topics deal with literacy, language development, learning problems and assessment. He is the author of numerous articles, chapters, and reviews on subjects covering linguistics, special and holistic education, language development and reading. With Albert Brigance he is the author of a book on educational assessment and was the consultant on Brigance's "Building Reading Skills" program, which is a set of instructional materials for use with older students who are still having difficulty in learning to read.

Dr. Hargis's research interests are in developmental and remedial reading and in assessment.
