Andrea J. Stairs, Ph.D.

Dr. Andrea J. Stairs is assistant professor of English Education in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee. Andrea earned her B.A. in English from Colby College in 1994 and her M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College in 1995. She then taught middle and high school English in New Hampshire and Colorado before returning to BC in 2001 to pursue her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, which she completed in 2006. Andrea’s interests include preparing highly qualified urban public school teachers and teachers who use content literacy effectively across the curriculum; building and sustaining school-university and professional development school partnerships as contexts for improved teacher preparation, teacher induction, and student achievement; and conducting practitioner inquiry and outcomes-based teacher preparation research.
