Master of Science
Educational Administration & Supervision
The University of Tennessee Educational Administration and Supervision Program offers M.S., Ed.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Educational Administration and Supervision. The M.S. program is designed to prepare aspiring school principals and supervisors for certification and for their initial administrative assignment. The two-year program, designed as a learning community, combines evening and summer classes with on-the-job internship activities organized around real school problems.
The desired outcome of the program is to produce thoughtful principal and supervisory practitioners with the skills and scholarship to provide quality leadership to the organizations they serve. Graduates are expected to have a vision of quality education combined with good leadership skills to lead our schools in the twenty-first century.
The program is designed around the standards developed by the Tennessee Board of Education and the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) for the knowledge and skills required today for a school principal. The program is also accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) indicating national recognition as a quality program.
The program staff, modeling the concept of a learning community, consists of University faculty collaborating with selected practicing administrators from local school systems in instructional teams. A cadre of local administrator consultants assists with problems-based learning modules. The school principal and a faculty representative of the Educational Administration and Supervision program together supervise the internship.
The University of Tennessee faculty includes:
- Vincent A. Anfara, Jr., Ph.D., University of New Orleans
- Pamela A. Angelle, Ph.D., Louisiana State University
- Ernest W. Brewer, Ed.D. , University of Tennessee
- Faye Patterson, Ed.D. , University of Tennessee
- Gary Ubben, Ph.D., University of Minnesota
