Purchasing International Postal Money Orders

1. International postal money orders are different from domestic postal money orders. The purchaser must specify the type desired.

2. Not all post office branches sell international postal money orders. Sometimes only the major localbranches.

Postal Money Order Missing?

1. Immediately report to the Money Order Division of the Postal Data Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

The toll free number is 1-800-868-2443.

2. The purchaser of the money order will be required to fill out form-6401 (you can pick up at the local post office branch). The post office will stop payment on the money order and issue a new one.

3. If the money order has been cashed, the postal service will send a photocopy to the purchaser to confirm the forgery. If there has been a forgery, the buyer will then have to fill out form-306 to verify fraud (you can only file this form if a 6401 has been completed). The post office will investigate and reimburse.

4. The 6401 which initiates a claim must be filed within two years of purchase.
