Survey of Earned Doctorates
As a requirement of graduation, doctoral students must complete the Survey of Earned Doctorates. The survey, administered by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago and sponsored by federal agencies including the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health, compiles data on all doctorate recipients from United States universities. Any information students provide to the survey is confidential. Data is reported only in aggregate form or in a manner that does not identify information about any individual. For more information, see this form, or visit NORC’s website.
Doctoral candidates have the option of taking this survey either
- online, or
- print out a questionnaire corresponding to the graduation date, or
- fill out a paper copy of the questionnaire obtained from the Consultant.
If students choose to fill out a paper copy, it should be returned to the consultant. If students take the questionnaire online, make sure to let the consultant know that you have completed the survey. The survey interface will allow you to send an automated email confirming your completion. Students may chose to send this confirmation email, or forward a confirmation automatically sent to the student’s own email address to the Consultant's email themselves.
