Technology Advisory Board (TAB)
Minutes of Meeting of September 21, 2005

I. Welcome and Introductions

Stephen Esposito welcomed everyone.

II. Information Commons

Barbara Dewey gave a brief overview of the Information Commons located in the former Reserve area of the second floor of Hodges Library. The Commons is a joint project of the University Libraries and the Office of Information Technology. Stan Pinkleton and Rita Smith gave a presentation detailing the services located in the Commons which include reference assistance, textbook paging after hours, computers and lab assistance, password resets, laptop wireless configuration and statistical consulting. Additional services are planned such as a practice presentation room with a new smartboard. Input from all students regarding services in the Commons is encouraged and welcomed.

III. Napster

Stan Pinkleton and Chris Reardon gave an update on the Napster pilot project which is scheduled to end in December. Usage statistics were presented which show that the usage of Napster this semester has increased in comparison to usage in the same time frame last Spring Semester. The discussion centered on the best method for evaluating this pilot program, the possibility of additional pilot programs and the proper way to move forward.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting of the Technology Advisory Board will be Wednesday, October 19, 2005, at 2:30 PM, in the 4th Floor Conference Room, Andy Holt Tower.
