| Academic Technology Facility and Instructional Technology Enhancements |
- ITC Faculty and GTA Workshops:
- 2,782 Faculty and GTAs attended ITC workshops
- ITC offered 229 sections of 78 workshops
- Revised the ITC's comprehensive 134-workshop curriculum and focused on a thematic
approach (implemented Fall 03: Student Interactivity; Spring 04: Assessment) to
emphasize effective teaching and the role of instructional technologies.
- Smart Classrooms: Offered 30 sections of Smart Classroom Training.
- Faculty First Project: Awarded 19 faculty representing 13 departments grants that
provide assistance for using technology to advance teaching and learning.
- Teaching with Technology Project: Supported 5 department teams (22 faculty total) to design,
develop, implement and evaluate 25 (5 per department) technology-enhanced learning modules.
- Curricular Reform Project: Modified this pilot implemented during FY03 designed to work with faculty from a department to redesign a multi-section, large lecture course for technology enhancement.
This year's project involved the Department of Foreign Language Teaching (Spanish, French, and German 512) course for graduate students pursuing a degree in Modern Foreign Language (MFLL) instruction. This course prepares graduate students to teach 1,000 undergraduate students per year in MFLL. In migrating the majority of course content into an online environment students were provided efficient access to instructional materials more relevant to their language of study and the undergraduate courses they teach. As a result, students have access to instructional materials representing their language and effective modeling and mentoring for developing their teaching techniques.
- ITC Development Lab: To meet growing demand for hands-on, site-based faculty development sessions, the ITC upgraded the Faculty "Flexi-Lab" (cart with wireless laptops) to "take workshops to faculty."
- Online@UT: Certified 399 faculty to utilize the system, hosted 5,326 sections of 2,177 courses, and supported 178 organization sites, to include 58 registered student organizations. Launched the
Technology@UT Tab where various campus units (i.e. Digital Media Services, Help Desk, Technology
Training Team, UT Libraries, Lab Services) manage "modules" to bring timely IT-related information
to Online@UT users.
- START Program: The Student Technology Assistants for Research and Teaching Program currently
employs 15 assistants consisting of both graduate and undergraduate students. Since 1/26/04, START
Team members have received human resource training featuring communication and team building skills,
and technical training on different computer operating systems and software programs as well as
hardware and connecting components. Team members have also received professional development through
independent technical training. START began accepting faculty project requests in March 2004. To date
there are 7 completed projects, 5 ongoing projects, and 4 projects slated for August 2004 delivery.
START Team members have assisted 14 faculty members devoting 1,567 hours to their requests.
