Recruitment FAQ
Where can I sign up for recruitment?
When is Priority Recruitment?
August 16-24
Do I have to go to all the Recruitment events?
Yes! The goal of Recruitment is to get enough information to make an informed decision as to what chapter you would like to join; therefore it is best that you attend as many events as your schedule permits. The events are during nights and weekend days to make sure that there are minimal schedule conflicts
If I'm a legacy to a sorority, is there anything I should know?
Each potential new member is considered individually; legacies are not obligated to join the sorority of their family member any more than that sorority is required to offer her a bid. Both the sorority and the potential new member are looking for mutual compatibility, not a family connection.
What if I am shy?
It is most important to be yourself. Every sorority is looking for a variety of members. Smile and feel free to talk and ask questions. Relax and enjoy the experience!
What if I only want to be in a certain sorority?
Women going through Recruitment often experience the greatest disappointment by beginning the recruitment process wanting to be in one or a few certain sororities. Sorority membership is more than wearing certain letters. Don’t make decisions based on stereotypes and other opinions. Keep an open mind and make the decision that is right for you.
How do the sororities decide whom to invite back for each party?
As your schedule of parties is reduced from round to round, so is the number of women each sorority is allowed to invite back. Everyone who rushes has something to offer a sorority, but sororities are just not able to keep everyone they want. Just as sororities must make the decision to release you, you must also make the decision of which sorority you do not want to return to. In deciding which potential new member to release and which to invite back, each sorority has a democratic process.
What should I expect my Recruitment days to be like?
Recruitment can definitely be tiring both physically and emotionally with all of the “rushing” around. However it is up to you to decide how positive a recruitment experience you will have. Remember a good attitude and an open mind are vital. Try to remember that even though small talk may become tedious and repetitive, every chapter is a new chapter and you should approach each one with a fresh outlook. Focus on sororities that are inviting you back rather than on any disappointments.
I have heard that some sororities have different reputations—how should I handle this information?
The only opinion of each chapter that should matter is yours. Each chapter is different from campus to campus and from year to year. If you allow someone else’s perceptions to influence you, you may not be satisfied with your choices during Recruitment. Remember that each chapter is made up of many different women with different talents and qualities that compose the entire group. There are always rumors about any important event, and Recruitment is no exception. If you hear any derogatory remarks about any sorority or any women in the group, please disregard those comments as inappropriate. If you have any questions regarding rumors or inappropriate comments, please direct them to your Gamma Chi or a Panhellenic Exec officer.
