The Internet is a great resource and tool for students and teachers in our nation's grade-level schools; however, a great many issues follow the Internet wherever it goes. In schools, Internet issues such as cyberbullying, filtering, and copyright are heightened further and must be addressed. If a child bullies another on the Internet using school computers, can the school be held liable? Do filters block content that is helpful and not harmful? How can we educate students to comply with copyright procedures when they have knowledge of cut-and-paste methods? All of these questions must be dealt with in our schools today where the Internet is in use. The Internet is a powerful tool for all of us, but with power comes responsibility. How do we balance the freedom of the Internet with our responsibility as educators to protect students from harm? This site explores the issues of filtering in schools today and the use of the Acceptable Use Policy in schools.
