[The following resolution was adopted by the UTK Faculty Senate on September 19, 1994.]

WHEREAS, members of the University of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, Memphis, Chattanooga and Martin faculty deserve and need, but lack, any voting faculty representation on the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) or the UT Board of Trustees,

WHEREAS, the UT Memphis, Chattanooga, Knoxville and Martin Faculty Senates are each the sole elected representative bodies for their respective campus faculty members,

WHEREAS, the students of UT Chattanooga, Memphis, Martin and Knoxville have certain elected student government association leaders who serve as their voting students representatives on the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) and the UT Board of Trustees,

WHEREAS, such disparity is inequitable and unacceptable to said faculty,

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT the UT, Knoxville, Faculty Senate hereby authorizes its elected leadership to undertake whatever steps they deem necessary to obtain full, voting faculty representation by members of the Faculty Senate leadership in the UT System on the THEC and the UT Board of Trustees in a timely fashion. The assigned seat on the THEC and the Board of Trustees should rotate among the four campuses and should normally be filled by the sitting Faculty Senate president of the designated campus.
