The following committee report was presented to the Faculty Senate on May 1, 2000. The recommended committee assignments were approved.

MEMORANDUM

To: Faculty Senate
Subject: Proposed Committee Rosters, 2000-01

The Committee on Committees recommends approval by the Senate of the committee assignments listed on the attached rosters.

The Committee has followed where possible these guidelines in making committee assignments:

  1. Committee chairs should be members or officers of the Senate. Professor English is finishing a two-year term as chair of the Athletics Committee; all other committee chairs are current members or officers of the Senate.

  2. Each Senator should be assigned to his/her 1st choice for a committee assignment. Not all Senators returned committee preference forms; of those who did, in all but two cases the Senator was assigned to his or her preferred committee.

  3. Each Senator is assigned to at least one committee. In one case a Senator requested that no committee assignments be made, and there are still four Senators to be elected (one each from Architecture and Design, Business Administration, Human Ecology, and the Space Institute). All other Senators are assigned to at least one committee.

  4. No Senator is assigned to more than two committees. Seventy-one Senators are assigned to just one committee; twenty-one Senators are assigned to two committees.

  5. Senators comprise a majority of the members on each committee. On all committees, most members are current Senators.

Please note that on the recommendation of the Senate's Executive Committee no assignments are made to the Development and Alumni Relations Committee.
