Marine Corps Financial Aid Program (MCFAP)

As college students, you need money for living expenses while in school.  To this end, the Marine Corps offers the Financial Assistance Program (FAP) to candidates who have completed their first summer of Officer Candidates School under the Platoon Leaders class.  Through MCFAP, you will receive $350.00 a month for every month you are in school, pro-rated for incomplete months.  Best of all--MCFAP is TAX-FREE--unlike other income (and unlike some scholarships), taxes will not take a piece of this money, and you may spend the money as you wish.  Consider it a "scholarship" from the Marine Corps.  This is a voluntary program that will not be offered to you unless you apply for it--with this in mind, we make information regarding the program available to you.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

       To receive MCFAP, you must:

·         Be a fully enrolled member of the PLC Program & successfully completed one session of PLC Training.  The session can be either of the 6- or 10-week varieties, but you must have completed the session to be eligible.
·         Be physically qualified for retention in the PLC Program.
·         Be a full-time student, enrolled for 12 credit hrs (or more) at an accredited two- or four-year institution.
·         Have a minimum GPA of 2.00 for the semester prior to application.
·         Must maintain an overall cumulative GPA of 2.00.  Marine officers are expected to be academically and militarily proficient.
·         If you are on academic or disciplinary probation you may not apply for FAP.

PROGRAM DETAILS:

·         If you enroll in the FAP program your active duty service obligation will be extended by six months, unless you take it in conjunction with MCTAP.
·         You may receive FAP for a maximum of 3 academic years.  If you have been receiving FAP since you were a sophomore, and you are entering your 5th year of college, you are ineligible.
·         If you quit the PLC program, get disenrolled for unsatisfactory performance at OCS, or are disenrolled for failure to maintain standards required to remain in the PLC program, you will be required to pay back any financial assistance received.
·         This program is not available to PLC-Law applicants.
