Title of Program:  Business of Dance Production, Performance, and Pedagogy

E-mail Address: sshelto8@utk.edu

Hometown: Tinton Falls, NJ

Year: Sophomore

Anticipated Graduation Date: Fall ‘09

Description of Program:  I am combining certain business programs (marketing, management, accounting, advertisement, and others) with dance and the technical side of theater.  Business education, dance training, and practical theater work are all necessary aspects of what I wish to accomplish.

Departmental Emphases: Dance, and Theater, and Business

Faculty Mentor: Wayles Haynes

Plans after graduation (career, graduate/professional school, etc.):  After graduation I plan to dance professionally from anywhere between 5-15 years and then starting my own professional dance company.  Later expanding that company into a dance academy.
Other Academic Interests:  I took a Political Science class freshman year and this year I’m taking a philosophy class.  I like these classes because they open doors to ideas that I wouldn’t normally think about, and make me look at my ideals and understandings from a different angle.

Prior Enrollment at Other Colleges or Universities: n/a

Study Abroad: n/a

Research Experiences or Internships:

Part-time employment; Hobbies; Campus Clubs/Activities:  I have a part time job as a computer technician for Technology Integration Services.  I am also a member of both the UT Dance Company and UT Men’s Club Lacrosse Team.

Additional Information:  I have performed all over New Jersey, in New York City, Hershey Park, and Walt Disney World.  I am certified: Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR/AED, US Soccer Federation Referee, and Tae Kwon Do Instructor. I recently was an extra for a movie and decided that the inefficiency of a movie shoot is not even close to the thrill of live theater.  Also, when I knock on the top of my head it makes a hallow sound
