Name: Michael Jones
Title of Program: International Communication in Foreign Policy and Diplomacy
E-mail Address: jones@utk.edu
Hometown: Nashville, TN
Year: Junior
Anticipated Graduation Date: 2008
Description of Program: My program is a synthesis of political science, writing, French, Chinese and other forms of communication. In order to understand the attitude and effectiveness of the American foreign policy establishment, I want to examine the way our policies are portrayed and accepted throughout the world.
Departmental Emphases:
Faculty Mentor: Dr. Lori Glover, Department of History
Plans after graduation (career, graduate/professional school, etc.): I would like to spend more time abroad and eventually study international law.
Other Academic Interests:
Prior Enrollment at Other Colleges or Universities:
Study Abroad: I spent the fall of 2005 in Aix-en-Provence, France, where I took intensive language courses. Also, I was able to travel extensively around western Europe. French culture is fascinating to me, and I would like to spend more time there, perhaps even do graduate work abroad.
Research Experiences or Internships: This summer I interned with Congressman Bob Clement, a candidate for the 2007 Nashville mayoral race. I had the opportunity to research effective campaign strategies and assist with community outreach and fundraising.
Part-time employment; Hobbies; Campus Clubs/Activities:
At the University of Tennessee, I am the president of the Central Program Council. CPC is the largest programming organization on campus, bringing a variety of cultural and educational events to UT. (Branches of CPC are the film committee, the Issues committee, All Campus Events, the Campus Entertainment Board, the Cultural Attractions Committee, the Visual Arts Committee, and the Women’s Coordinating Council.)

I am a member of Student Alumni Associates.

I am the editor of student@tennessee, a weekly e-newsletter that goes out to all UT undergraduates updating them on campus events and opportunities.
