Summer Curriculum Development Workshop

BooksAs an important component of professional development and outreach, we will host summer workshops that focus on topics of current interest in the field of computational biology. We will produce these workshops in collaboration with Bioquest, an educational team based at Beloit College with collaborators at many institutions including UT. These one to two week workshops will feature curriculum enhancement and development sessions that cover special topics in biocomputing and will provide hands-on experience with emerging tools for bioinformatics.

SCALE-IT students will be encouraged to take a workshop in the summer following their first year. However, we expect these sessions to be widely attended, with changing topics, so that SCALE-IT trainees, postdocs and faculty can attend workshops each summer if desired. These focus on education regarding new trends in the field, with curriculum enhancement workshops, and are designed to provide our partner faculty and students with tools that can be used at their home institutions. Furthermore, as an important step in their professional growth, our senior SCALE-IT students will mature into instructors and workshop leaders who can staff these summer activities.
